This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 3 or 4. It is based on a combination of the KS1 and KS2 SATs reading papers and includes 3 differentiated levels.
There are a range of 'what,' 'why' 'how' and 'who' questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity contains five pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 2-3 questions per page. Answers are also included.
This comprehension is based on the Jewish festival of Purim. It tells the story of Queen Esther and describes how Jewish people celebrate her bravery now with the festival of Purim.
There is a colour and black & white version of each of the booklets. The preview pages show the title page and one other page from each of the middle ability booklets. PDF file format.

This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 4-7. The plans are very detailed (9 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year.
Lesson 1 contains a brief overview of Judaism and Purim. Lesson 2 focuses on the story of brave Queen Esther. Lesson 3 teaches the children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim.
Each lesson starts with a carpet session. The children then split into five groups for activities. These include drawing, storytelling, dressing up and crafts. Across the three lessons the children have the opportunity to do all of the activities. The plans could be combined into one lesson with the children only doing one or two activities. There are three differentiated levels of objectives. There is an optional 18 slide PowerPoint to accompany the lessons which tells the story of Queen Esther and how Jewish people celebrate Purim. This resource is a plan for 3 lessons on Jesus’s parables to be taught to KS2.
The first lesson covers why Jesus used stories/parables to teach lessons. The parables that are covered in the following 2 weeks are ‘The parable of the lost son’ and ‘The parable of the mustard seed.’ The second 2 lessons can be taught in any order and encourage the children to consider how difficult it is to forgive and how Jesus hoped to spread the word of God. The lessons are taught through a variety of mediums, such as watching clips, taking part in storytelling, drama activities, planting a seed and artwork. The plans contain Bible references and internet links to make it easy to find the stories, details of how to teach the stories and activities that the children could do. There are also detailed Learning Objectives with differentiated outcomes. It is an easy plan to follow as very few resources are needed, but are listed where required.
